GEST3005 Smart Sensors and IoT (Fall, 2026, Fall 2025)

Course Description:

This course will introduce the foundational knowledge of electronic sensors and analog/digital technologies for data acquisition. The sensors discussed in this course can interface with Internet-of-things (IoT) objects. The acquired skills will prepare the students for advanced courses in green energy studies and also developing automation in different scientific disciplines.

GEST4007 AI-Driven Green and Smart Technologies Laboratory (Fall, 2026, Fall 2025)

Course Description:

This laboratory course emphasizes the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into green and smart technologies. We will utilize LabVIEW and Arduino-based hardware/software platforms. A key component of the course is teaching students how to deploy various machine learning models onto Arduino microcontrollers to achieve edge computing. Students will work hands-on to implement them on embedded systems, and explore real-world applications such as energy harvesting, energy conversion efficiency, energy conservation, and characterization of energy harvesting materials and solar cells.
